Things Our Drivers Wish Everyone Knew Before Booking a Truck

After nearly 80 years of moving things around Adelaide, it’s fair to say we’ve encountered just about every kind of delivery.

The straightforward ones. The awkward ones. The “it’ll definitely fit” ones.

So, in the interest of making everyone’s day a little easier, we’ve put together a few things our drivers would probably love you to know before you book your next truck.

1. “It should fit” isn’t quite a measurement

We love confidence, but when it comes to choosing the right truck, actual dimensions are even better.

Knowing the length, width, height and approximate weight of what we’re moving means we can send the right vehicle from the start — and avoid discovering on arrival that your “couple of pallets” are actually taking up half a warehouse.

When in doubt, measure it.

2. Tell us about the tricky bits

Narrow driveway? Low clearance? Underground car park? Busy construction site? Nowhere remotely sensible to park?

Tell us.

The more we know about the pick-up and delivery locations beforehand, the better we can plan the job. Our drivers are pretty handy at navigating awkward situations, but a heads-up never hurts.

3. Loading and unloading matters

How is your freight getting onto the truck — and how is it coming off at the other end?

If there’s a forklift at one end but not the other, we need to know. The same goes if the load needs a crane, tailgate or a bit of extra consideration.

There’s a truck for almost everything. We just need to send the right one.

4. Secure it before we move it

Loose parts, open boxes and items that haven't been properly prepared for transport have a funny way of becoming much more interesting once the truck starts moving.

Have everything packed, wrapped or secured where possible before the driver arrives. It keeps your goods safer and helps get the truck loaded and on the road faster.

5. Timing is a team sport

If you’ve booked a truck for a particular time, having the load ready to go makes a big difference.

Drivers often have multiple jobs scheduled throughout the day, so delays at one pick-up can have a knock-on effect for everyone else.

Of course, things happen — particularly on worksites — but keeping us in the loop helps us keep things moving.

6. If you’re not sure, just ask us

You don't need to know your trays from your tautliners or work out exactly what size truck you need before calling.

That’s our job.

Tell us what you’re moving, where it’s going and anything unusual we should know about. Chances are, we’ve moved something similar before.

And if we haven't? Well, that usually makes for a good day at SA Taxi Trucks.
